New York, I Love You

Oh New York...

There will forever be a special place in my heart for the city of New York

Upon arrival to NYC in August of 2015, I had no idea what I was doing... I had flown there just two weeks before my move, found an apartment the very last day of my trip, and now was back in the city again with only a month's rent in my bank account and no clue as to what I wanted to be doing career wise.

I moved to New York to BE in New York. I was in love with the city. So much so that I was fine taking a gig as a waitress or dog walker,  just so that I could call New York home. Although I would have loved to play with pups, I luckily landed my first job in the city working as an assistant for the sales team of a big tech company in Midtown. It started out like most jobs do... I was having to learn the ins and outs of the company, was working long hours, and was beginning to feel that I was finding a sense of purpose in my new city. My co-workers became wonderful (and now lifelong) friends, and I was loving my new routine. I was beginning to feel more comfortable with where I was. There was only one problem though... I became a little too comfortable.

Sometimes, when we have a good thing going and it becomes easy for us we tend to become complacent and we lose sight of the ultimate goal and dream. It's easy to stay in a job where 1. You love who you work with, 2. You love your easy schedule & work from home lifestyle, and 3. You're happy with your salary. - These were all the things that I felt great with during my time at the tech company, but I knew something was missing.

New York pushed me to follow my heart and believe in my dreams. - I moved to New York because I eventually wanted to work in Fashion. I wanted to grow my career as a style blogger, and wanted to connect and work with professionals within the fashion industry. So... after a year at the tech company, I did a little soul searching, and decided to leave my job in order to pursue a different route. (It was one of the hardest things I've ever done, but the MOST rewarding.) This route took me to so many things I couldn't have even dreamed up of on my own... I began working with brands that I had loved since I was little. I partnered with Banana Republic & Coach, worked on campaigns and went on shoots with Anthropologie, became a brand ambassador for Diane Von Furstenberg, and ultimately earned coverage in Vanity Fair Magazine

New York pushed me in more ways than one. It got me out of my shell, it made me stronger, and helped me develop a sense of longing to never ever give up on my dreams or who I wanted to be. I had to go out on a limb, trust my gut, and allow myself to believe in my dreams again. I will forever be grateful to the city of New York for playing quite possibly one of the biggest roles in my life... For helping me be bolder, work harder, and for teaching me to always believe in myself.

Here's to my time spent in the city, to friends who became family, to all the memories made and career goals reached, and to my dreams coming true. And here's to all the go-getters, dream makers, and incredible people who I met while there and who have served as examples for me to always pursue what I love.
